If you’ve just watched our Chiang Mai food video, and you’re wondering where you can find all of these mouth-watering foods, don’t worry! We’ve got you covered! If you’ve somehow managed to find our blog without seeing the video, check out the video below to learn more about all of these dishes. The blog post below is just going to tell you where you can find each dish and approximately how much it will cost.
Chiang Mai is probably our favorite city in the world. One of the biggest reasons we love this city so much is because it’s so easy to find incredibly delicious food with incredibly low prices to match! After living in the city for 5 weeks, these are the foods we found ourselves eating over and over again.
This is by no means a comprehensive guide to eating in Chiang Mai, and it’s a bit biased towards the Nimman area of the city because that’s where we stayed. However, if you’re visiting Chiang Mai, you should make it a goal to eat at all of the places on this list. I guarantee you won’t be disappointed!
Even if you only make it to one of the places, take a picture and tag us on Instagram @karaandnate! Nothing makes us happier than to see you guys supporting these local business owners and having an awesome experience in the process. 🙂

Yum!!!! I’ll be in Chiang Mai in just under two weeks, and I’m so excited. 2 out of 3 of our group are vegetarians, so some of these places don’t apply, but it looks like we can get delicious Indian food and Bannoffee right by where we’re staying, so can’t wait. I’ll be sure to tag you guys in Instagram when we try them out!

Particular thanks for this one Kara and Nate. Been watching your adventures, SV Delos, and a couple of others and appreciate your travel hacking frugality approach and openness to learning new cultures. Doing the Banana Pancake Trail has been my entry plan to two years of travel starting in January 2020 and Chiang Mai is one of those I plan to spend some time. You slowing down for a month on your epic journey suggest this place is special to you and think affirms I’m on the right track in my travel planning.
BTW, you also affirmed by wandering by where I live and think we were in Vancouver, BC almost the same time and glad you picked up the Kelowna, Revelstoke, Golden, Lake Louise, Banff thing.
And the reference to Laab was timely. It’s on my list of dishes to try and also featured in one of Bourdain’s episodes from the same city years ago. https://explorepartsunknown.com/thailand/bourdains-field-notes-thailand/
Thanks again for leading the way!

You didn’t name the Indian restaurant, just the name of the food you had.

Interesting most all your selections are up in Nimman. Did you not spend much time in the old city? I feel the same way about Chiang Mai. Not quite the party town a lot of the beach places are. Foreign drunks are not fun to watch. Or any drunks for that matter. Thanks for the tips . Will check Anchan

Hello Kara and Nate,
I’m thinking of going to Chiang Mai by myself this March. This is going to be my first experience. Do you have any suggestion for first time traveler? Can you recommend hotel that is close to the mall and street food.
Also, is it safe to travel by myselfself?
Thanks,
Karisa

We are so happy to have stumbled across your channel when we were planning our trip to Cuba. We were so inspired by this series, we decided to go to Chaing Mai next – but now we have a dilemma – airfare is the same price to Vietnam – for first time travelers to Asia – which would you choose?

Fabulous Roasters says permanently closed! Just walked past the Indian restaurant showed my cousin your pic and waved! Too short a stay here for us to try Indian! But we will try the chicken guy!
